Wow, what a way to start the new year, I hope itās not too late to say a āhappy new yearā?š .
I guess this is the point where I welcome you back to the LearnVC newsletter!, a platform that empowers African creators and helps them succeed by bridging the information and resource gap between them and the venture ecosystem.
This year, we have bigger goals, and Iāll always share those goals with you every month and weāll achieve them together; teamwork makes the dream work. Speaking of teamwork, please take a moment to share todayās newsletter.
Weāre starting the year with an immersive series thatāll help us(I inclusive) become knowledgeable(and maybe competent) in the venture capital ecosystem, and this time, weāll be doing it for #100 days in a roll, yeahš, you heard me right, 100 full days of wisdom and fun infused contentsš . Think itās rather too audacious, weāll thatās why I have you by my side, weāll be able to achieve this goal if we do our parts in making it a success. So be sure to keep your part and do what we ask of you when you see it. Deal?
Letās get right into itā¦.
#100 Days Of Venture Capital.
Day 1
In recent times there has been a lot of focus on the tech ecosystem in Africa and this has led to the creation of disruptive and market-changing innovations.
These days almost everyone wants to invest in the next generation of startups built by African creators.
But, surprisingly, there has been less focus on equipping and empowering these young African creators and innovators with relatable information that'll help them thrive and expose them to more opportunities that can scale their startups.
This is what LearnVC aims to do.
In the first iteration, I started out with a newsletter where I made efforts to demystify the rudiments of venture capital and although which made little success. But wasn't consistent.
A few more persons became interested in it and were asking for more.
So, I put out a survey and the outcome of that survey is what birthed this second iteration of The LearnVC series.
In this iteration, you'll understand the rudiments of venture capital and its impact in emerging markets in an African context.
You'll learnĀ
Why do most startups fail?
Why do startups raise capital?
How startup investing really works
What exactly is equity in tech startups and how do equity holders make money.
Funding round nomenclature, from pre-seed to IPO
Understand startup valuation and how to calculate the value of a startup.
How most VC firms perform due diligence
Economic and control terms of a term sheet. And a few legal things you'd need to learn.
This is the first article of more to come.
And yeah, I also launched our podcast and itās been receiving a lot of reception lately.
š You can listen to it here š
A few things I learned in the previous iteration and what Iām changing in this iteration.Ā
I missed a lot and took a long break(or went on a sabbatical, if you may say). Iām changing all of that this year, by having more structure and sticking with a new promise of an article per day(for the #100daysofVC series) and one podcast episode per week (Tuesdays).Ā
For 2022, hereās a schedule of all the days weāll drop contents:Ā
January 10 - April 20 ( Daily #100DaysofVC Series)
Every Tuesday (Podcast Episode)
I may also take a small number of personal or sick days, but thatās about it. Please feel free to hold me to account - we have now entered a contract.
See you Tomorrowš
